Surah Al-Asr, Ayah 1-3
Reflection
This concise surah presents a comprehensive formula for human success and salvation. It begins with an oath by time, emphasizing the significance of how we use our limited lifespan. It then makes the sobering statement that humanity, in general, is in a state of loss. The exception is those who fulfill four conditions: faith, righteous deeds, mutual encouragement to truth, and mutual encouragement to patience. This teaches that success requires not only personal faith and good actions but also positive social engagement in supporting others in truth and perseverance.
Context
Surah Al-Asr is one of the shortest chapters in the Quran but contains a comprehensive philosophy of successful living. It emphasizes both individual righteousness and social responsibility as essential components of true success.
