Surah Al-Fath, Ayah 10

July 19, 2025
Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you, [O Muhammad] - they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah. The hand of Allah is over their hands. So he who breaks his word only breaks it to the detriment of himself. And he who fulfills that which he has promised Allah - He will give him a great reward.

Reflection

This verse was revealed regarding the Pledge of Ridwan, where the companions pledged their loyalty to the Prophet under a tree. It emphasizes that pledging allegiance to the Prophet is equivalent to pledging allegiance to Allah, highlighting the Prophet's role as Allah's representative. The phrase "the hand of Allah is over their hands" signifies Allah's presence and approval of this pledge. The verse then warns that breaking such a pledge harms the person themselves, while fulfilling it brings great reward from Allah. This teaches the sanctity of commitments made in Allah's name and the serious consequences of breaking them.
