Surah Al-Qiyamah, Ayah 14-15
Reflection
These verses reveal that humans have an inner consciousness that serves as a witness to their own actions. Despite whatever excuses people might offer for their wrongdoings, their inner self knows the truth about their intentions and actions. This inner witness (basira) refers to the human conscience, the innate moral sense that distinguishes right from wrong. On the Day of Judgment, this inner knowledge will testify against those who committed sins, making their excuses ineffective. The verses teach that self-deception might work in this world, but ultimate accountability is based on the truth that our own souls recognize. This encourages honest self-reflection and genuine repentance rather than self-justification.
Context
These verses appear in Surah Al-Qiyamah (The Resurrection), which discusses the Day of Judgment and the evidence that will be presented against wrongdoers. They emphasize the role of human conscience as a witness.
