Surah Al-Furqan, Ayah 74
Reflection
This verse describes the prayer of righteous believers for their families and their own spiritual leadership. "Comfort to our eyes" (qurrat a'yun) refers to the joy and satisfaction that comes from seeing one's spouse and children following the path of righteousness. Rather than praying only for worldly success for their families, they pray for spiritual success that brings true, lasting happiness. The second part of the prayer asks Allah to make them leaders (imam) for the righteous - not seeking worldly leadership but spiritual leadership through exemplary character and behavior. This teaches that the greatest joy for believers comes from their family's righteousness, that parents should prioritize their family's spiritual welfare over material success, that true leadership comes through righteous example rather than position or power, and that seeking to be a positive influence on others is a noble aspiration.
