Surah Al-Ankabut, Ayah 45

October 21, 2025
Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.

Reflection

This verse combines two fundamental Islamic practices: reciting the Quran and establishing prayer. It explains that prayer serves as a barrier against immorality and wrongdoing by maintaining regular connection with Allah, reinforcing moral consciousness, and providing spiritual strength to resist temptation. The phrase "remembrance of Allah is greater" can mean that remembering Allah is the greatest aspect of prayer, or that Allah's remembrance of the believer is greater than the believer's remembrance of Allah. The verse concludes by reminding that Allah knows all actions, emphasizing accountability. This teaches that regular Quran recitation and prayer work together to maintain spiritual health, that prayer has practical benefits in preventing sin and promoting righteousness, that remembrance of Allah is the most important spiritual practice, and that consciousness of Allah's knowledge motivates good behavior.
