Surah Fatir, Ayah 15

October 27, 2025
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَنتُمُ الْفُقَرَاءُ إِلَى اللَّهِ ۖ وَاللَّهُ هُوَ الْغَنِيُّ الْحَمِيدُ
O mankind, you are those in need of Allah, while Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.
اے لوگو! تم اللہ کے محتاج ہو، اور اللہ ہی بے نیاز، قابل تعریف ہے۔

Reflection

This verse establishes the fundamental relationship between humanity and Allah. Humans are described as "fuqara" (poor/needy) toward Allah, meaning completely dependent on Him for existence, sustenance, guidance, and everything else. In contrast, Allah is "Ghani" (Free of need/Self-sufficient) - He needs nothing from His creation and lacks nothing. He is also "Hamid" (Praiseworthy) - worthy of praise in His essence, regardless of whether people praise Him or not. This teaches that recognizing our complete dependence on Allah is essential for proper worship and humility, that Allah's independence from creation makes His care for us even more remarkable, that human pride and arrogance are fundamentally misplaced given our total dependence, and that Allah deserves praise simply for who He is, not just for what He gives us. This verse promotes humility and proper perspective on the human-divine relationship.

Context

This verse appears in Surah Fatir (The Originator), emphasizing the fundamental relationship between the Creator and creation. It highlights human neediness and Allah's complete self-sufficiency.
