Surah Fussilat, Ayah 30

November 2, 2025
Indeed, those who have said, "Our Lord is Allah" and then remained on a right course - the angels will descend upon them, [saying], "Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised."

Reflection

This verse describes those who declare Allah as their Lord and then remain steadfast (istaqamu) on this path. The word "istiqamah" means consistency, steadfastness, and staying on the straight path despite challenges. To such people, angels bring a threefold message: don't fear (about the future), don't grieve (about the past), and receive glad tidings of Paradise. This divine comfort comes to believers both in this life (through inspiration and peace) and at death (when angels actually appear). This teaches that declaring faith must be followed by consistent righteous living, that steadfastness on Allah's path brings divine comfort and support, that true believers need not fear the future or grieve over the past, and that Paradise is the ultimate reward for those who remain faithful. The verse provides immense comfort to believers facing difficulties, assuring them of angelic support and ultimate success.

Context

This verse appears in Surah Fussilat (Explained in Detail), describing the reward for those who maintain faith and righteousness. It promises divine comfort and ultimate success for the steadfast.
