Surah Al-Insan, Ayah 3

Reflection

This verse establishes that Allah has provided guidance to humanity, showing them the path of right and wrong through revelation, prophets, and innate moral sense. After receiving this guidance, humans have the freedom to choose their response: they can be grateful (shakir) by accepting and following the guidance, or ungrateful (kafur) by rejecting it. The verse emphasizes both divine guidance and human free will. Allah fulfills His responsibility by providing clear direction, but the choice of how to respond remains with each individual. This teaches that people cannot claim ignorance about right and wrong, as Allah has made the path clear. The ultimate responsibility for choosing gratitude or ingratitude lies with each person.
