Surah Al-Mujadilah, Ayah 11

O you who have believed, when you are told, "Space yourselves" in assemblies, then make space; Allah will make space for you. And when you are told, "Arise," then arise; Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees. And Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
Surah Al-Mujadilah Verse 11

Explanation

This verse teaches proper etiquette in gatherings while establishing profound spiritual principles. Making space for others in assemblies shows consideration and humility, and Allah promises to "make space" for such people - meaning He will expand their circumstances, opportunities, and blessings. Rising when asked shows respect and obedience. The verse then promises that Allah will raise the ranks of believers, especially those with knowledge. The combination of faith and knowledge receives special honor from Allah. This teaches that courteous behavior in social settings reflects spiritual character, that showing consideration for others brings divine reward, that knowledge combined with faith earns special status with Allah, and that Allah observes and rewards good social conduct. The verse encourages believers to practice good manners and seek beneficial knowledge, knowing that both are valued and rewarded by Allah.

Context

This verse appears in Surah Al-Mujadilah (The Pleading Woman), teaching proper conduct in gatherings and emphasizing the special status of those who combine faith with knowledge.
