Surah Al-Zukhruf, Ayah 36-37

And whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful - We appoint for him a devil, and he is to him a companion. And indeed, the devils avert them from the way [of guidance] while they think that they are [rightly] guided.
Surah Al-Zukhruf Verse 36-37

Explanation

These verses describe the consequence of turning away from Allah's remembrance. When someone becomes "blind" to remembering Allah (through neglect, denial, or deliberate avoidance), Allah allows a devil to become their constant companion who misleads them. The most dangerous aspect is that these misguided people think they are rightly guided - they lose the ability to recognize their error. This teaches that remembrance of Allah protects from satanic influence, that abandoning Allah's remembrance opens the door to spiritual corruption, that Satan's deception makes people confident in their wrong path, and that self-deception is one of the most dangerous spiritual states. The verse emphasizes the critical importance of maintaining regular remembrance of Allah as protection against spiritual blindness and satanic influence. It warns that those who neglect Allah become vulnerable to forces that lead them further astray while making them feel confident in their misguidance.

Context

These verses appear in Surah Al-Zukhruf (The Ornaments of Gold), warning about the consequences of neglecting Allah's remembrance and the resulting spiritual blindness and satanic influence.
