This verse recounts the prayer of the young believers (Companions of the Cave) who fled religious persecution and sought refuge in a cave. Their prayer demonstrates perfect reliance on Allah during crisis, asking for two essential things: divine mercy and right guidance in their situation. They didn't ask for specific solutions but trusted Allah to arrange what was best for them. The word "rashad" (right guidance) encompasses both spiritual guidance and practical wisdom in handling their circumstances. Their prayer shows complete dependence on Allah rather than their own planning or human help. This teaches that during trials, believers should seek Allah's mercy and guidance rather than relying solely on their own understanding, that sincere prayer during difficulty demonstrates true faith, and that asking for divine guidance in our affairs shows wisdom and humility. Their prayer was answered through the miraculous protection Allah provided them in the cave.
